MANLY KNIVES WOW!

manly KNIVES
Simply Fantastic! страхотно!
Made in Bulgaria!

manly knife model "DRUGAR", designed  by DIRK WANGER in Germany and expertly manufactured by Manly knives in Bulgaria.

About to go picking mushrooms

I just discovered Manly Knives (manly) and they are simply great!

Manufactured in Europe by a Bulgarian company in the country's capital, SOFIA. Established in 2004.

I bought a manly DRUGAR fixed blade model made with German 1.2379 tool steel.

That's similar to D2, and very well contoured G10 scales. The grip is extremely ergonomic and that means super comfortable.

A drop point; 4mm thick; full flat grind; full tang construction; butt end perfect for striking a steel.

Full flat grind drop point hunting/camping and bushcraft type knife friendly

The drugar was deadly razor sharp out of the box and remained as such after heavy cutting of vegetables and mushrooms (wild- they were dirty) on a bamboo chopping board (very abrasive).

The days haul (well we actually got even more later that day!)

Some of the days's chanterelle take-manly knife drugar Full tang, 1.2379 German tool steel

Cutting up the Boletus, ceps!

The manly made drugar also features a lanyard hole too.
Lanyard hole plus protruding tang. (bearing company name). The latter is acute enough to strike a fire steel.

The manly made drugar fixed blade came with a simple but effective well-made Kydex scabbard with left or right handed mounting of which you can easily mount it (the belt attachment comes in the box).

The knife locks securely into the scabbard perfectly with no slop at all and can be siliently inserted and removed.

There is gimping right where you want it too!

The manly knife features a Lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. The manly made drugar is top quality, and I couldn't get my money out fast enough!

The manly drugar is available in several handle colour versions: Black, a dark green; hunting blaze orange; red, at the time of writing this article.

The red is the perfect choice for working in the forest foraging as you ca not loose it easily.

Easily seen Red G10 scales, also available in other less noticeable colors!
4.0mm Full tang construction too!
Summary:

The drugar model (designed by Dirk Wanger) made by manly knives has a HRC of 59-61. That I can testify to, as I was cutting mushrooms all day in rocky sandy granitic soils and the blade did not chip at all. Yes the tip did need slight touching up at the end of the day but any blade cutting into gravelly soil will loose it's razor sharpness. This is the first time I've used a blade made with 1.2379 steel otherwise known as X153CrMoV12.

Plus I also cut flat that dead log you see in the first photograph, covered with wind blown granitic grit, so I could cut up that preserved meat. The knife edge was unaffected!
That burnt area on the birch log was where I used the back of the blade to easily strike a fire steel. (in video to come).

Made in Bulgaria!

Stay tuned for a full video field review!

  1. Very vulnerable... Not suitable for survival/heavy usage... For food preparation, yes of course... BUT in the field... the things are very different.

  2. Yes but of course it isn't a survival type knife but literally a small/medium sized hunting knife and or lightweight camping knife.
