EXTREMA RATIO RAOII EXPEDITIONS

 EXTREMA RATIO RAOII EXPEDITIONS

Very soon as in the coming weeks, the RAO II Expeditions will be living up to it's name and appearing in quite a different environment with BCT. If you are new here or didn't see my original reviews and blogs about the Extrema Ratio RAOII then you might consider feasting your eyes upon this version in the coming weeks.

The stone washed blade addresses all those concerned about using a coated blade for bushcraft type/food preparation. Mil spec black oxide coating is not necessary for regular bushcraft, however, they've kept the "stealthiness" of the original model by a black stone wash treatment.  Personally I like the Desert finish of anodizing color as it just looks more funky and again not necessary to have an all black knife, easier to loose if clumsy. Many expressed their desire for this knife to be more "Bush crafty" and they listened.

I'll replace the flimsy ring on the shock cord too, like I did with my other RAOII and use a 90lb test stainless steel ring instead (see below). All coming soon!

Some things you may not know.

The construction of this knife is typical Italian! Sleek design, everything well throughout. For instance, one can only see Torx head bolts at the rear of the knife frame, however, cleverly hidden away are two sets of pins (seen here greatly magnified because this light gap is extremely small and the knife held up against a bright sunny window) that can be just seen which bolster the rear "spine" of the handle within the T6082 Aluminium scales.

Bet you didn't know that eh? This way no ugly bolts to be seen along the smooth back of the knife!

The RAOII EXPEDITIONS is essentially the same as the RAOII with exception being (what appears to me) a slightly stronger spring (it is, see below) within the locking mechanism). This spring is much stronger than in my RAOII for sure as a strong flick of the wrist with closed blade facing downwards will not release the blade from the handle, unlike if i perform the same manoeuvre on the RAOII. This is of course more useful here since the RAOII Expeditions is marketed towards the "Bush crafter" and not the military end user.

The "Desert Camouflage" anodizing and of course a non coated N690 stainless steel blade which has simply undergone a stone washing process. The "Expeditions" package also sports a desert colored pouch of exactly the same quality of the RAOII pouch however with the addition of a quality fire steel and striker and of course the standard diamond plate sharpener for field usage.

The same fully adjustable pivot, I just love, for the perfect custom deployment.

Stick around!!!!
