Kizlyar Supreme URAL! preview.

WOW! The Kizlyar Supreme Ural is an outdoors knife I have had my eye on now for a couple of years. Made with Sleipner tool steel from Uddeholm, this is a proper convex ground blade. My Kizlyar Supreme Ural came to me via Russian Post EMS and the wait was well worth it. A super deadly sharp convex edge, excellent grippy handle scales that felt very comfortable and all enclosed in a leather scabbard with a dangler loop and accessory loop for a fire steel (not included). The scabbard is riveted stitched and glued with a drain hole as well!

Bi-colored G10 composite scales provide a secure but comfortable grip.

The overall feel of the Kizlyar Supreme Ural is weighty but NOT heavy despite the 5mm thick blade; and that's because the tang has been partially skeletonized so it isn't weighty at the handle end. The Ural looks stylish but also has the appearance of super tough and capable hunting blade.

Sleipner Tool Steel, what is it?

If you don't already know what Sleipner steel is then here is a run down of this tool steel. This is direct from the manufacturer Uddeholm, a Voestalpine company. But briefly, better wear resistance than D2, better toughness than D2, high HRC values easily obtained eg HRC >63, high resistance to chipping cf D2.

This will be my third knife made with Sleipner tool steel and my previous experience with this steel has been only very very good. My gut feeling is that it outperforms D2, especially at being able to hold an edge at similar HRC values.

I was able to, quickly and effortlessly feather some seasoned birch wood and the geometry of this convex grind really bit well into thick bark then the wood. 

Smooth yet tactile gimping on the spine.

The Kizlyar Supreme Ural is available in the following alloys: AUS8, Sleipner and PGK steel.

Kizlyar Supreme are marketing the URAL as a hardcore hunting knife and that's because it was indeed developed in conjunction  with experts from the "Guntact portal" which essentially is a Russian Forum for expert knife users (hunters etc.)  that is part of a Russian equivalent to Face Book called VK.com. These are the guys who are putting some of Kizlyar Supreme's knives to the test!

The Kizlyar Supreme Ural is one heck of beefy hunting knife and a wicked deadly convex edge. I think it could handle any game from small to medium with ease plus do all of your camp duties with ease.
